Every year, Christmas falls on December 25th. Every year, it seems to creep up earlier than you expect. Since holiday decorations can only displayed for a short period of time, why spend bundles on them? For less than $10 and less than 10 minutes, we created these adorable holiday ornaments and jars. If you want to avoid the holiday crowds and expensive price tags, here’s how!
What You Need:
- Cotton Balls
- Faux holiday garland
- Mason jars or clear ornaments (plastic or glass)
- Clear glue
- Burlap trim
- Fake snow
- Jingle bells
- Faux mini trees
- Small ornaments
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Go to your local park and grab sticks and pinecones that have fallen down. Head to Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, or even the Dollar Tree to pick up some faux holiday plants and anything else you do not already have lying around at home. (I even grabbed some fake berries and small pieces that had fallen off other Christmas decorations – they would throw it out anyways!) When we were finished shopping, our cart totaled less than $10 each!
Step 2: Lay Out Your Ideas
Gather everything together and lay out what ‘matches’ and what doesn’t. Use scissors to cut your faux holiday plants. Separate into smaller pieces to fit into your jars or ornaments.
You can opt to use cotton balls instead of fake snow to save a few dollars. Here’s a trick: if you use little bits of cotton ball pieces on fake holiday greenery, it really looks like snow! If you are making a clear ornament, be sure to keep tweezers handy as the opening to insert decorations can be tiny.
Step 3: Decorate!
There is no wrong way to decorate your mason jar or ornament. If you have a blue theme, add blue glitter. If you want the organic look, stick with earthy tones. You can even glue small mini trees to the bottom of the jar and add white glitter to make a snow globe! The ideas are endless.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
If you decided to grab hemp string or burlap trim, tie some around your jar or ornament. Use a hot glue gun to keep it in place. You can also use ribbons, wrapping paper, garland, beads, etc.
Well, that was easy!
Use these adorable holiday decorations as centerpieces, ornaments, or even gifts. With only a few supplies that cost next to nothing, you can make a whole set of holiday décor before an episode of your favorite TV show is over.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season.
